How did you two meet?

We say we met on Twitter, but here’s how it really went down….

Chadd is a sports talk radio host and programming director, and I heard him on the air one day talking about how he’d never date a woman who liked sports. At the time, I was an attorney, but I was doing sports business reporting for Forbes and Comcast Sports Southeast.

In fact, I was on my way home from CSS when I heard this discussion on the air. Next thing I knew, they were taking calls from guys saying they essentially wanted a woman who tolerated that they watched and went to games, but they didn’t want to do it together, because they saw that as their “guy time.”

I’d always thought being a woman who knew and liked sports worked in my favor, but being as though I was single when I heard this conversation on air, I thought perhaps I had it all wrong. I took to Twitter to express my dismay over the conversation, and Chadd saw my tweet. Some of his coworkers at the radio station worked at CSS with me, so he asked them what I was like.

Two days later, he emailed me and said he was, “always willing to reassess his beliefs,” and he asked if I’d meet him for a drink. That drink turned into hours of talking and eating at a restaurant in Atlanta, where we lived at the time, and we’ve been together ever since.

The best part?

We host a sports talk radio show together and talk about sports all the time! Guess he didn’t know what he wanted after all!

How did he propose?

We were walking my dog (I say “my” dog because he refuses to claim her, lol) down on the beach one night and he totally surprised me by proposing! I knew we were going to get engaged, but I really didn’t suspect that’s what he was up to, because we walk the dog on the beach all the time.

How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake?

Color Scheme:

We picked out our colors (teal and coral) days after getting engaged. It was a color scheme we were using in our new house, and we just both loved it.

Cake:

We found our cake on Pinterest in the first week or two of being engaged as well, and it went with our colors and overall feel, so we pinned it and just went with it.

Flowers:

For the flowers, I had pinned quite a few ideas on Pinterest, but I didn’t think they all necessarily went together. I shared the board with the woman who would become my floral designer, and she somehow pulled it all together perfectly.

I think that’s a great way to do it if you’re not creative or design-oriented yourself – just pin what you like and share that board with a design professional and let them bring your ideas to life!

How did you decide on your invitations, and who did you use?

Our wedding coordinator suggested Fish Lips Paper Designs, and we are so happy with how our invitations turned out! I always thought using a designer to do custom invitations would be too expensive, but I checked the prices on popular wedding invitation websites, and we didn’t spend any more to get something completely custom! I particularly loved the custom map she designed to include in our invitation. We loved it so much she blew it up for us to frame in our house!

Where did you go for your honeymoon?

We delayed our honeymoon and are going to the French Riviera in May!

If you could give yourself any advice prior to the wedding, what would it be?

To remember to unbustle my train before I walked down the aisle! Total flub there, but in the end no one really knew but me. Otherwise, I think the best thing you can do is to hire a coordinator who can do the worrying and stressing for you before the wedding. Then, once you hire that person, step back and let them do their job and take things off your plate.

The other piece of advice I have is with regards to the food. I was told by everyone I knew who was already married that we’d never get to eat at our own wedding. Wrong! Both our coordinator and caterer made sure we ate. In fact, one of the servers followed us around while we were taking pictures during happy hour and brought us hors d’oeuvres and drinks to sneak between photographs.

Then they had our dinner waiting for us at our sweetheart table, and we were able to eat a full meal while our guests were going through the buffet and eating their own dinners. Talk to your caterer and coordinator about this beforehand if you want to be sure you get to eat.
