Jen and Doug’s Wedding Day – Jacksonville Golf and Country Club

Jen and Doug had such a gorgeous wedding day.  The weather was so perfect, and everyone had such a great time.  Jen is a sweetheart, and Doug is great guy and full of life.  He keeps us laughing!  They took their vows outside near the golf course in a new area just recently constructed.  It’s perfect for ceremonies!  After the wedding and reception, we took a trip to the town center to get some FUN night time pics.  They are beautiful.  Posing more on the FB. http://www.facebook.com/tonyabeaverphotography.com

Their Love Story
How did you meet? I had been talking to his friend over the computer for a few months and decided to finally meet up with him one night for drinks. Doug happened to be over at this friends house and he invited Doug along so it wouldn’t be awkward. Needless to say, I ended up really liking Doug and we started hanging out after that night

How did he propose? It felt like it was never going to happen. I knew he had the ring which was like torture. It was very simple. We were laying in bed, watching tv like we always do and our dogs were sleeping on the bed between us. And he just asked. It was so late so I woke up some of my family and had to tell my friends the next day.

How did you choose things like your color scheme, flowers, and cake? Color – girls were trying on bridesmaids dresses and the dress we chose happened to be in the eggplant color and I really liked it on them so I decided to make it our color. Flowers – I only had 2 things: I didn’t want roses or traditional fall colors so my florist was very excited when I told her I wanted to use colors that “popped” – the rest I left up to her. Cake – we had tried a few different places and when we met with our baker, I knew she was the one. Had heard good things about her and would use her again in a heartbeat!

Where did you go for your honeymoon? We didn’t take one but are planning something for 2011 – maybe a few small trips?

WEDDING day specifics:

Rehearsal Dinner Location: Copelands – to be honest, I was hesitant at first. It had been a while since I had eaten there and I wasn’t super impressed then. But I must say, it was very nice and the room is quiet. Adequate to seat about 30 people. Very attentive waitresses. The food was REALLY good! Only drawback is the parking to be honest.

Ceremony Location: Jacksonville Golf and Country Club – outside Garden Terrace. Beautiful. When I booked the club back in Feb, the garden area wasn’t finished yet and was just a mound of dirt. They were marrying people on the grass overlooking the practice green. It is honestly soo beautiful !!!

Reception Location: Jacksonville Golf and Country Club House – again, very pretty! Has lots of character!

Caterer: Jacksonville Golf and Country Club – food was amazing. We got to have several taste testings before and everyone raved about the food and how fantastic it was. Even though we didn’t get to eat much, we knew it was going to be good!

Wedding Coordinator: my mom haha. We were supposed to have a coordinator assigned to us through Jax Golf and CC but we found out she had resigned or quit from her position the week before our wedding and we didn’t even know. It was very hard to keep in contact with her anyways so my mom did a lot of the coordinating/follow through the months before the wedding and the day of, she was making sure it was all running smooth so I would have my perfect day.

Photographer: duh, Tonya Beaver. I truly feel like I got what I paid for with her. This girl is totally on top of her game. Never had to worry about her or her getting back with me. She truly goes above and beyond as a wedding vendor, acting not only as a photographer but also as a friend and someone to keep you calm yet functioning the day of the wedding.

Videographer: none but we had a friend of ours who did video our ceremony for us as a surprise.

Cake: Classic Cakes at Jax Beach. We worked with Carol. Amazing!!! She also did my shower cake. We had tried other places and I was afraid to even ask her prices but she was absolutely reasonable. The cake is out of this world! So many flavors and I went to her with ideas and she was able to sketch something up and it was exactly what I was looking for. She is my cake lady for life. Always made sure we were satisfied and very prompt in returning messages.

Florist: Celebrations. We worked with Laura who is the world’s sweetest lady! She truly embraced what I asked her for and did an amazing job. She went above and beyond on my big day when we were a few arrangements short by going back to her store and making us more arrangements so things wouldn’t look uneven! She is a perfectionist with her flowers. I trusted her expertise completely.

Officiant: Amy Zluchowski (my friend from work)

Hair: Salon Nouveau in Orange Park. I go here to get my hair cut and have been for years. The girls were great – we didn’t give them specifics but just gave them ideas of what we wanted. They were fast and efficient and made sure we were happy with the styles we had done. I thought they were a little more expensive than some places but I knew we would not be disappointed.

Make-up: Misty Grant – I wasn’t going to have a make up artist but I must say this is one of the best decisions I made. She came as a referral from another bride’s mom. She was a little hard to get ahold of at first but when I did, she was as sweet as could be and I immediately felt comfortable with her. She came to my house and did a trial run and showed me how to apply makeup in my daily life. She is honestly a true professional! Amazing work. My makeup stayed on all night through all the crying. She was by my side up until ceremony time and through pictures touching me up. She even stayed through the ceremony and touched me up after so I would look the best I could for pictures. She will go as dramatic or as natural as you want. She is not just your “run of the mill” chick who does this on the side for fun. She loves her job and makeup is her passion!

Entertainment: Jerry from McGee Entertainment. Only concern I had with them is that they mixed me up with another bride a few times which made me nervous. And they waited an awful long time to get my songs all prepared (like 2 days before the wedding) but maybe that’s how they operate. Everything turned out fine and they were able to find all the versions of the songs I wanted, as hard and as odd as they were.

Transportation: we used Doug’s Brothers Escalade to ride to the Town Center for pictures afterwards. We found that limos were rather pricey.

Wedding Dress: Alfred Angelo – Whew, what a nightmare. I will just start by saying perhaps all bridal dress stores are chaotic but anytime I would go in this store, it was chaos. I always waited at least 30 mins past my appointment time – sometimes as much as an hour! Their sizes are not consistent. My mom had to order her top 3 times in the same size and they all fit different then the one in the store to try on. My dress was fine until the alterations lady steamed my dress and got a brown stain on the front of my white satin dress – with only 35 days until my wedding. It was a fiasco to get a new one, which again, fit totally different than my 1st dress in the same size and didn’t come in until 20 days before my wedding after they promised me they were over-nighting a new one. The day before my wedding we were supposed to have it steamed at the store for all the trouble we had with them for free and they opened the store 2 hours late and made us wait 2 hours while they steamed it. I have never been so mad in all my life. I would not recommend going here – it would be worth paying a few extra hundred dollars more to not have to deal with what I did. I DID love my dress but was very very upset with the situation. And I know it wasn’t just me who had this luck but on several occasions there were unhappy girls in the store at the same time as me. Most of them were upset over botched alterations or lack of concern/customer service by the staff. They have pretty dresses at reasonable prices but tread with caution!

Bridesmaids Dresses: Alfred Angelo – very pleased with their dresses. No problems like with mine but we also took theirs to be altered at an offsite alterations after all the trouble we had experienced with my dress.

Groom and Groomsmen Wear: Men’s Warehouse – everything was great here except the ladies at the Orange Park Mall store were not very nice. But they did their job so I guess that’s all that matters. Its nice that the guys can go to any location nearest them to get their tuxes
