(wedding day information from Marissa)
Hotel accommodations for guests: The Casa Monica, The Best Western Bayfront, the Hilton, and the Comfort Inn in downtown St. Augustine.
Rehearsal Dinner Location: O.C. Whites Seafood & Spirits
Ceremony Location: On the giant dance floor of the River House
Reception Location: The River House
Caterer: Culinary Outfitters- Mary did an excellent job with coordinating the dinner, communicating with us beforehand as well as with our day-of coordinator, and the food was excellent! Her serve staff was attentive and professional too. They were recommended to us from a friend who used them for her wedding and I would also recommend them!
Wedding Coordinator: Tammy Woodcock, who was also our florist, did our day-of coordinating. She went above and beyond every time and made the reception absolutely beautiful and made sure everything went as planned. She was so helpful with assisting me in making decisions and was also quick to respond to emails, calls, etc. She even came to St. Augustine to be at the River House for our walk-thru before the wedding so she would know how the day was to run (and ended up answering questions for me that I didn’t know- I don’t know what I would have done without her that day!). We were also referred to her and I would definitely recommend her to everyone!!
Photographer: Of course only the BEST- Tonya Beaver! She was definitely my favorite person/vendor we had at our wedding!! She was prepared, always quick to respond to my emails, and super sweet every time I met with her or spoke with her! She captured every single moment of the wedding- from the tiny details of my accessories beforehand to us leaving the ceremony, and everything in between! Some of our bridal party though she was bossy but I LOVED it and thought she was hilarious and was doing an awesome job to make sure our day (and future pictures) turned out perfect!! She made sure to keep the pictures fun and captured all of the special moments. I couldn’t thank her enough for making our day so amazing!!!!
Videographer: Siberian Pictures- John was there ALL day to capture everything about our wedding day, from the time us girls were getting ready until we left at the end of the night. I made it a priority to have a videographer so I would be able to go back and watch my wedding day as many times as I wanted. Not only do we miss so much of what happens during the day as the bride and groom, but we also knew how fast the day would go by and our memory could only hold on to so much. He stayed near the photographer (but out of her way) so that he could capture all of the important parts and sweet memories. I was so glad I had Siberian Pictures as part of our wedding day!
Cake: Kakes by Katie- Katie was awesome to work with and the cake was definitely one of the best I have EVER tasted!
Florist: Tammy Woodcock with Parker’s Events. As I said before, she went above and beyond and was wonderful to work with!! All of the flowers and centerpieces were more beautiful than I imagined! She is so sweet and truly seemed to care about our decisions, our wedding, and us. We loved her!
Officiate: Joby Martin is the pastor at our church (The Church of Eleven 22) and did the majority of the ceremony for us. He is a family friend and it was so special that he could be a part of our wedding day. I also had my childhood pastor, Ken Babin, take part in the ceremony and did the Unity Cross and Communion with us. He married my mom and my sister so it was important to me that he could also be a part of our wedding!
Hair: Irene Mazza from 6th Street Station in Gainesville, Fl- she has been doing my moms hair for more than 25 years and did mine as a child. She is a close family friend and was coming to the wedding so she was more than willing and excited to do all of hair. She also brought three other people with her to assist with hair and do make up.
Make-up: Donnie Lancaster from 6th Street Station in Gainesville
Entertainment: Jeremy Love of Love Your DJ. He was recommended by our florist/coordinator, Tammy, and we were definitely happy we chose him! He was super helpful beforehand and fulfilled all of our requests. We wanted each individual person in the bridal party (that’s 16 total) to have their own song to walk out to at the reception and he made a custom playlist of the clips of the songs we gave him. It turned out great and they were all surprised with their own song we chose for them! He kept the party going and played to the beat of the crowd.
Wedding Dress: Love- Jacksonville Beach
Wedding Shoes: I made them! I found plain white ballet flats on Dessy and then glued more than 1,000 tiny crystals onto each shoe.A lot of tedious work but much less expensive (and more special) than the ones I found online!
Bridesmaids Dresses: They were all handmade to their individual measurements from an Etsy shop- Harsuccthing
Groom and Groomsmen Wear: Michael’s Formalwear
Before the Wedding …
How did you two meet? We met at a crossfit gym in the summer of 2011. I had recently moved to Jax beach and needed to find a gym to continue working out at and just chose the one closest to me. We both worked at night so we attended a late afternoon class together and I always found myself getting butterflies in anticipation of pulling up and seeing his car there. We quickly discovered that we attended the same church (he sat in the front row so of course he never saw what was behind him) and in a few short days we were on our first date. We hung out almost every day we were off from then on and began dating shortly after that.
How did he propose? He tricked me into planning my own engagement evening so I wouldn’t be suspicious. We had previously been to St. Augustine to celebrate Christmas of 2011 and my birthday that year so it was a special city to us. It was the beginning of December 2012 and I told him I wanted to go see the Nights of Lights event they put on every year. He agreed and told me to pick out a nice place to have dinner at and make reservations. I made the plans and we went, had dinner, and he proposed afterwards in front of the beautifully decorated staircase at the Casa Monica hotel. Such a surprise!
How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake? Pink is my favorite color so I knew I wanted to do pink, and since hot pink had become so popular at the time, I chose a light pink. I was really into light pink and grey, and Derek was ok with that as long as the pink was the accent color, so that was it. I absolutely love peonies and wanted so bad to have them in my bouquet even if they were out of season and more expensive. I don’t care for the look of regular roses so my florist used spray roses and garden roses for the girls’ bouquets and the guys’ boutonnieres, which are both somewhat more similar looking to peonies but less expensive and easier to get during the summer. I wanted to keep the cake somewhat simple and knew I wanted a solid, three-tier, square cake but didn’t know or care much about the specifics. Derek went to the tasting with me and actually saw pictures of designs he liked and chose the accents and details for it. I wanted to keep the flavors simple- the tiered cake was white chocolate and the sheet cake was chocolate.
How did you decide on your invitations, and who did you use? I had an idea in my head of what I wanted but couldn’t find it anywhere or on any website without paying about $5 per invitation! I finally found something I loved on Etsy (I used Etsy for almost EVERYTHING!) and the prices were very reasonable. It was simple, only a one-sided invitation, a reply card, and the envelope. Her shop is called ‘The White Invite.
After the Wedding …
Where did you go for your honeymoon? Northern California for 10 days total with a few days at each place- Mendocino, Napa, Lake Tahoe, and San Francisco. Derek planned it all by himself and I think it was the BEST honeymoon!
If you could give yourself any advice prior to the wedding, what would it be? To not worry about what everyone else wants or trying to please the family, guests, etc…this is OUR day and we get to choose the way we want things to be done. Also, relax and enjoy all of the little moments. The day goes by SO fast and I just tried not to get caught up in the delays, dilemmas, and details of the day. Everything would work out, and no matter what happened, at the end of the day I would still be marrying my love!!!
