How did you two meet? We were both in the Marching Chiefs at FSU, and I was trying to join the music fraternity that Joe was a part of.  I had to have an interview with him as part of the candidate process, so we went to the tennis courts on campus to watch some mutual friends play.  We talked nonstop and laughed the entire night and became best friends pretty quickly.  Two years later, we began dating, and the rest was history!

How did he propose? Joe and I can never wait to give each other gifts that we buy each other.  So after Christmas or birthday shopping, we almost always burst through the front door and give each other the present because we are too excited.  We are lucky if the gift even gets wrapped.  The engagement was no different – Joe had the ring in his possession for about 5 hours before he couldn’t take it anymore, snuck out to the garage to get the ring from its hiding place in his golf bag, and proposed in our living room.  It was very “us” in that he couldn’t wait to give me the ring he bought, and it worked out because I had never been so shocked in my entire life.  Joe really wanted the engagement to be a surprise, and it definitely was!

How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake? With my middle name being Rose, roses have always been the flower of choice for me, and I love rose petals just as much.  I had always envisioned roses and rose petals everywhere at the reception, and that’s what we had.   We added some Calla Lilies to my bouquet and Joe’s boutonniere for some variety.  The roses we used were all black magic because they have a gothic/deep red color, which I love.  The bridesmaid dresses were espresso, which I thought was a good color for the Fall.  I had considered going with gold dresses, but espresso looked so nice with my bridesmaids’ skin tone, so we went with the brown and our wedding colors became dark brown and red.  Our cake was 3 tiers with the bottom and top layer being a white cake with fresh strawberries in the middle, and the middle layer was an almond cake with fresh strawberries.  Black magic roses were on every layer, and they were also our topper.  It was beautiful!  The FSU Seminole head groom’s cake was a red velvet cake, which is Joe’s favorite.  Carol with Classic Cakes dyed the cream cheese icing gold so with the red cake, it was garnet and gold.

Wedding Day!

Rehearsal Dinner Location: Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Restaurant in Jax Beach.  We had the back room to ourselves and it was a great cocktail/appetizer party with our family and close friends.  They did a great job and everyone loved the food.

Ceremony Location: Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church

Reception Location: Casa Marina Hotel – Their staff is incredible!!  Everything went so smoothly and the food was amazing.  I can’t recommend them enough.

Caterer: Casa Marina Hotel

Wedding Coordinator: Adair Currie with “Your Wedding Weekender” was wonderful!  She did so much for us the day of and I can’t imagine what it would have been like without her there to make sure everything was running smoothly and nothing fell through the cracks.  I had a lot of compliments from my guests saying they could see how hard she was working throughout the entire reception.  It was a 12 hour day for her and she was still just as happy and bubbly at the end of the night as she was in the morning.

Photographer: Tonya Beaver Photography!  Tonya goes above and beyond what any wedding day vendor would typically do, and we are so thankful we had her for our wedding.  She was always quick to respond to my emails about timing for the wedding day or advice on vendors or other wedding related questions, and she was efficient and professional throughout the entire wedding day.  Also, it goes without saying how beautiful her pictures are.

Videographer: In Motion Video Productions.  We haven’t seen the video yet, but I’m sure it will be great!  Tara and her team are very professional and so great to work with.  We added an extra hour to our package about 2 weeks before the wedding and they had no problem with the change in plans.

Cake:  Classic Cakes – Carol was great to work with and the wedding cake and groom’s cake tasted and looked wonderful!

Florist: A Fantasy in Flowers – they totally came through with what I had envisioned, even though I didn’t even feel like I explained it very well when I met with them.  They were flexible and very nice to work with and the flowers were gorgeous!

Officiant: Monsignor Daniel Logan

Hair: Cortello Salon – they did a great job!  Everyone’s hair held up throughout the entire day.

Make-up: Kimtasha Armstrong and Lia from Paulina Perez’s team did a total of 9 people’s makeup, including all of my bridesmaids.  Kimtasha did mine, and I’ve never felt more beautiful!  She knew I wanted a more natural look since I rarely wear a lot of makeup, and she executed the look perfectly.  Both women are wonderful and everyone was thrilled with how they looked!

Entertainment: Alan Franco with DJ Connection

Transportation: A Dream Limousine – we had such a nice driver, they were on time the limo was clean.  We would recommend them to anyone!
Wedding Dress: Maggie Sottero “Ambrosia” from Minerva’s Bridal in Orlando.
Bridesmaids Dresses: The designer was Dessy, and we purchased them through orders dresses straight from the designer and sells them at a discount.  I was really hesitant to use them because it sounded too good to be true, but after hours of research and reading comments on every wedding website I could find, I still couldn’t find any negative reviews.  They are also recommended by The Knot, so my bridesmaids and I decided to go for it and order the dresses.  They arrived a month early and they were perfect!  We saved around $80 on each dress.

Groom and Groomsmen Wear: Michael’s Formal Wear

After the Wedding …

Where did you go for your honeymoon? We are going to Napa and Big Sky, Mt, to go skiing.  We leave December 26th and we can’t wait!  We did stay at a hotel in Amelia Island for 2 nights after the wedding to relax, and I’m so glad we did.  We were exhausted from the wedding day.

If you could give yourself any advice prior to the wedding, what would it be? I would have told myself to RELAX the day of the wedding.  I was a little (ok, a lot) nervous about the day in general, and it wasn’t until probably 3 hours before the ceremony that I finally just let everything go.  Once I started relaxing, I had a blast getting ready with my bridesmaids and family, and I really enjoyed the day.  Also, it’s true what they say – once you meet your future husband at the end of the aisle, all the nerves fade away and there’s only happiness in your heart.  So all the stressing beforehand is pointless J
