Reception Location: Ceremony Location: The Museum of Contemporary Art Haskell Atrium
Caterer: Cafe NOLA at MOCA
Wedding Coordinator: Lauren Cowgill
She works at the Windham Event Design (WED). She was absolutely fabulous and was there by our side the WHOLE reception. We also used Lauren’s design services, and the reception design was breathtaking. She has a real eye for design and event decor, and it was perfect!
Photographer: Tonya Beaver Photography
Who, as far as I’m concerned, is THE ONLY true wedding photographer there is.
I didn’t know any photographers personally and hadn’t yet received a referral for one, so I started my hunt online (where I feel that you can get a good sense of a photographer’s work).
Right when I looked at Tonya’s website, I knew that her work was different. Every single photo is as beautiful as a work of art! Then, my mom and I met with Tonya, and I booked her that day! Her personality is as beautiful as her photos. When people say that Tonya is “so much more than a photographer,” is it 100% true.
My husband’s step dad had forgotten his tie on the day of the wedding and by the time he realized it, it was too late to go get one. So, Tonya calls her husband and has him bring a tie for my husband’s stepdad. She didn’t miss a beat – she is a true gem and I am SO thankful that she was there to capture our wedding day!
Videographer: None
Cake: Sweet By Holly – cupcakes!
Florist: Ruby Reds Floral and Garden
Bonnie’s creations were stunning!
Officiate: Shannon Dobson, my cousin.
Hair: Casey Powell
Modern Classic Beauty Shoppe in San Marco (“Casey Does Hair”). Casey is extremely talented – I described my vision for how my hair would look and she executed it even more beautifully than I had imagined!
Make-up: Amanda Hopcraft Makeup
Amanda is just wonderful. She does airbrush makeup that naturally brings out your features. My mom also had Amanda do her makeup, and she wanted a more natural look, which Amanda delivered seamlessly.
Entertainment: DJ Jacob Towe.
To say that DJ Jacob is just a wedding DJ is to do him a disservice. He is a genuine person who actually cares about each couple. He made the whole event run so smoothly and I cannot recommend him enough.
Wedding Dress: David’s Bridal
Wedding Shoes: BHLDN (Anthropologie’s bridal line)
Groom and Groomsmen Wear: Men’s Warehouse
Before the Wedding …
How did you two meet?
We met in our Junior year in college, and he was actually seeing my roommate at the time. After they broke things off, we started hanging out. Since then, we’ve been inseparable! I knew he was the one very early on.
How did he propose?
I told him that out of everything I wanted, I wanted it to be a surprise. We had been living together for 2 years, so it would have been really obvious should he try to “plan” something. So, he decided on a day, and decided that whatever I chose for us to do that day, he’d propose there.
We went to Tijuana Flats for dinner and then Coldstone for dessert. Coldstone had been one of our first dates, where we really got to know each other. So, we were sitting there eating our ice cream, and he popped the question! Sure enough, I was surprised 🙂
How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake?
I had always loved “peacock” colors, cool colors like greens and purples and blues. We ran with it, and the design came out perfectly!
How did you decide on your invitations, and who did you use?
I love all of the creative designs on Etsy, and we found a shop, “JordyLuxe” that makes classy cartoon-ish portrait invitations based on photos of you. They were adorable and perfect!
After the Wedding …
Where did you go for your honeymoon?
ICELAND! My husband and I are both very adventurous, so we wanted a honeymoon that would let us be active and explore. It was by far the most beautiful place that I’ve ever been, and it was an absolute blast!!
If you could give yourself any advice prior to the wedding, what would it be?
Don’t worry about a thing – there is not a thing to worry about. There were things on the wedding day that did not turn out how I had “planned” them, but I soaked everything in and made the best of it, and looking back, I wouldn’t have wanted it ANY different! You will have the PERFECT day if you allow it to be perfect – relinquish some control, remind yourself that you are there to commit to your best friend and have fun with the people you love.
Also, soak up the quiet moments. I had been pulled at and tugged on all afternoon, and about 30 minutes before the ceremony, it was just my mom and I in the room together putting on my veil – that is one of my favorite moments of the day because we really didn’t say a word – we just enjoyed being present.
