How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake?

I think it took me over a week to finally decide on the color scheme lol. I went with burnt rusty orange and ivory. It’s one of my favorite colors and I thought it would look great on all my bridesmaids! Flowers were kind of a last minute decision. I knew what kind I wanted but didn’t really have a vision until my friend Mary and I winged it and put them together the day before our wedding. They turned out amazing!

How did you decide on your invitations, and who did you use?

I ordered our invitations off of magnet street. They had so many options and you could order samples. I narrowed it down to 3 and Jay and I both decided we liked the simple branch with leaves because we felt it matched our venue. I got a wax stamp with a dragonfly design because they were my mom’s favorite.

What was the most fun part of wedding planning?

The most fun part was when Jay and I made our wedding beer with his master brewer Matt at their brewery Hyperion! It was a mango wheat and we called it mango Schuss because his last name (and now mine) is Schussman (:

Which part did you not like as much?

Honestly there isn’t anything I can really complain about! It was such a fun process and of course a little stressful but nothing to cry about. The only thing I wish we were able to have was an engagement party. Unfortunately covid rained on that parade but it is what it is!

What are the biggest pieces of advice you wish you would have known before the wedding day.

So, I bartend and I got advice from so many people, and they were all right haha. We got the obvious make sure you eat and drink and enjoy the things you paid for but the best advice we were given was for both of us to stop and take a moment, look around at all the people we love and soak it all in because it goes by faster than you think. Remember it’s the best day but it’s 1 day. Don’t get caught up in it and stress yourself out. Enjoy the process even if something goes off plan it’s okay.

Love Story:

How did you two meet? 

We met at Graffiti Junktion in Jax Beach. I was a dental assistant and served tables there part time. He was friends with all my coworkers that I had befriended and we hit it off right from the jump, anytime we were out with our friends we would always gravitate to each other and talk for hours. He was suppose to move to Colorado only a few months after we started seeing each other but, we fell in love and plans changed (:

How did he propose?

 Jay proposed April 24th, 2021. His family takes a trip every year and that year was my first time appart of one. We got a sweet airbnb in the Keys and I had never been to the Keys before. I had a feeling Jay was going to propose because a few months earlier Jay’s sister Aprill had taken me to Beards to “look for a new engagement ring for her friend” because we had similar taste, so she said…

When we got to the airbnb the boys were all about fishing and nothing else. I sorta lost my suspicion he was going to propose, Jay and his family did a really good job hiding it lol. My friend Monique even texted me and asked if I still thought it was going to happen and I truly didn’t think it was going to happen. Anyway the next day we were all outside waiting for the sun to set.

Jay and I were looking at fish/sharks in the water and we were walking out on this old boat landing that went out into the water. I was looking in the water when he told me to turn around and give him a hug and he told me how happy he was to be there with me and how much he loved me. THEN it happened, he got down on one knee (: Jay even made sure my family got together for dinner that night so we could facetime them after it happened. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better person to spend the rest of my life with.

In your words, can you give a storyline of your wedding day?

March 5th, 2022, the best day of our lives. Jay and I both talked about how everyone was asking if we were nervous and both of us weren’t. It’s a different feeling, it wasn’t a bad feeling. I guess you could say we were anxious… We were both just ready, ready to see each other.

It was all perfect, even if something “went wrong” it didn’t matter. Only thing that mattered was marrying my best friend. My dad has dementia so you never know what you’re going to get with him. But that day he was in the calmest mood and was complimenting everyone while we were getting ready (which isn’t always the case.)

We had the best jams on and I had such a blast getting ready with my favorite ladies! I did a first look with my dad and his face lit up, he told me I looked great before telling me to put a shirt on lol. When we were about to pull up to the venue I got instant butterflies. I was so excited to see my soon to be husband. My amazing bonus mom greeted me with a warm smile and a big hug.

Then it was time for the first look! From the moment we had our first look, I knew I was going to be with Jay for the rest of my life. We all piled into the trailer and we were off to the beautiful oak tree where Jay and I would be married. My dad and I sat on a swing at a tree nearby while we waited for everyone to walk and I tried not to cry happy tears at the songs Jay and I picked. I was so nervous my dad wouldn’t be able to walk me down the aisle but he did!

Standing there looking at Jay waiting for Jay’s dad to tell us to say our I do’s, I had never been more sure of something in my life. I felt my mom there with me the whole day, she was definitely smiling down on us big time that day. While we were all dancing and mingling my friend came over to me and pointed at the Moon. It was a “wet Moon” or “Cheshire Moon” and she said “look your mom made the moon smile for you two.” I am so grateful for everyone who helped me and made this day possible.

The entire day was just magical, the whole day was so laid back and that’s how Jay and I wanted it. This day holds a permanent spot in my heart and I will cherish it for the rest of my days.

What was the high point of your wedding day that you hope to remember forever?

What was the highest point of our wedding day? Oh man, I don’t think I could narrow it down to one but I’ll keep it short. One of the high points of our wedding was actually before the wedding.

I had such a great time planning and pulling it all together with my husband, his family and my great friend Mary. Another highlight was getting ready and jamming out with my sisters, my sister in law, my bonus mom, my bestest friends, and my dad. Reading Jay’s vows the night before and when Jay and I did our first look and of course the ceremony will always be my fondest memory of our wedding day. Spending time and seeing all of our closest friends and family was of course another highlight. The whole day was honestly my highlight!
