MEMBER APPRECIATION DAY

I’ve been a member of this crossfit gym since what feels like the beginning of time (okay, maybe 7 or 8 years?). For me, this community was a game changer to my fitness. I think as women, most of us grew up with this notion of eat less, do tons of cardio, be as thin as possible.

Which if I can be totally open and vulnerable here, I would suspect has put a lot of us into some disordered eating and body image issues. Then came crossfit, which was a gym full of people just getting dirty (no girls are dressing up to look pretty for the workout), we cheer each other on, partner together to reach goals of how much we can LIFT (not how much we weigh), we’re always trying to learn a new skill for instance double unders or toe to bars, etc.

My headspace completely changed from “be smaller” to “what is my body capable of doing and how can I get better? That shift brought me so much happiness not being so damn hard on myself trying to meet this unattainable goal. But most important is the community that surrounds you every workout to remind you that you CAN do it, DON’T give up, and those friends are also there on walks of life outside of the gym when you need the same reminder.

It’s fun. It’s hard. It’s something I hope I’ll get to do forever and ever.
