HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE?

Real. Just give me pure authentic emotion and let me capture that.

HOW DID YOU FIRST GET IN TO PHOTOGRAPHY?

I was always taking photos as a child. My grandmother would have a camera around, and she actually gave me my first camera. But I’ve always been the person to have the camera, annoying everyone with constantly taking photo/video, and then keeping it to look back on.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO PURCHASE NEXT FOR YOUR STUDIO/GEAR?

Lordy, how do I even answer? For the studio, I’m always on etsy buying new outfits, wraps, etc. For gear, I don’t have the 85mm which I’ve always wanted. So maybe that lens will be next.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FORMAL TRAINING IN PHOTOGRAPHY?

Yes. I took photography in college. Dr. Shultz was my teacher, and he and I to this day still keep in touch. Almost 20 years later (ouch!), he still encourages me in my career and craft.

WHAT IS TYPICALLY IN YOUR CAMERA BAG?

2 Canon Mark iii bodies, 1 Canon Mark ii body. Lenses: 24-70mm, 50mm, 35mm, 100mm, 70-200mm, fisheye. About 4 flashes and triggers. Snacks. Lots of snacks.

DO YOU FOLLOW ROUTINES OR RITUALS WHEN YOU’RE WORKING?

Depends on the shoot.

For a wedding day, I don’t prefer to have many ideas in my head. I like to get into a groove and flow, and that only happens naturally. If I mentally try to have a creative plan, I don’t prefer what I get as the outcome. Letting things unfold naturally is where it’s at for me. I see it as I go, and I build on that.

For studio work we do like to have our setups thought out and placed. I like to photograph children quickly so we can get what we need, move on, and have lots of variety in their collection. But that requires being set up and ready to go quickly.

For editing, I’m generally alone so always have some sort of podcast on.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL MOST GRATEFUL FOR IN YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY CAREER?

Hands down the people. I have met so many amazing people through the years. And it’s so rewarding to have them come back for life events regularly. They don’t feel like clients, they feel like family.

DO YOU HAVE ASSISTANTS?

I do! I have the BEST help, and I would be nowhere in this business without all the amazing people that have been next to me along the way.

Kathleen is our studio assistant. She’s always two steps ahead of me on the setups, and she’s being silly behind me during the shooting … But she is always making all our little people laugh. She also is responsible for 1000% of all the crafty home made props in the studio.

And I have a handful of really amazing second shooters that accompany on wedding days. They are top of the best, and I’m so so grateful for them all.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN YOUR STUDIO?

I’ve been in my studio for 6 years now. It’s so adorable, and I love it so much. The light filters in so beautifully. And it’s just cozy and quaint. It’s small, but if it were larger, I would just keep filling it up with more props. So this size is actually perfect =)

WHERE IS IT LOCATED?

My studio is located in Jacksonville beach near Willard’s Auto, Lee and Cates Glass, and St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

It’s a little pink cottage, and you can’t miss it.
