Melissa + Jake Wedding Photos
Wedding Day Info (written by Melissa and Jake):
Ceremony Location / Reception Location/ Caterer: The Club Continental, Orange Park, FL
Photographer: Tonya Beaver Photography
We Love Tonya Beaver! We absolutely cannot say too many wonderful things about Tonya!!! Working with her far exceeded our expectations. Her style manages to capture candid touching, funny, tender moments, and her posed shots were beautiful as well. We loved working with her as she was willing to work with our requests and yet still had fantastic judgment as to what shots would look the best.
Tonya and her team were completely unobtrusive at the wedding. During the wedding and reception, she never interrupted; instead she used her excellent judgment to take wonderful natural shots that were unposed and genuine. The photos are fantastic; we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience! We would, and intend to, recommend Tonya to all our friends without any reservations whatsoever.
Cake: Publix and Mandy Kirk at Cottonwood Cupcakes.
Florist: Cassandra with Flaire Wedding & Events.
Cassandra initially put garden roses on my estimate, but she knew how much I loved peonies and found an incredible deal and added them to my arrangements as a surprise…..AMAZING!!!
Officiate: Tommy Green (Jake’s Uncle).
We enjoyed many week nights preparing for the big day and days/years after with Uncle Tommy. He took the time to not only council us but also serves as our spiritual and marriage adviser.
Hair: Stephanie Brannon, cousin of the Groom (Salon 607).
Drove all the way to Orange Park from Plant City, with a broken foot, and stood for hours to do hair for 9 ladies. Also, credit to Cousin Brenda for chauffeuring Stephanie and patiently waiting while we got ready.
Make-up: Shannon Lindsay, close family friend….came to rescue at the last minute and was absolutely phenomenal. Couldn’t ask for a better friend.
Entertainment: Chris, Footloose Entertainment. AWESOME, Very attentive and nailed everything details.
Wedding Dress: Essence of Australia, CC’s Bridal Boutique, St. Pete, FL. I cannot say enough wonderful things about their management and staff.
Wedding Shoes: Antonio Melani
Bridesmaids Dresses: CC’s Bridal Boutique, St. Pete, FL.
Groom and Groomsmen Wear: Men’s Warehouse
Before the Wedding …
How did you two meet?
Our story begins 9 years ago at West Virginia Wesleyan College. He was a catcher for the baseball team and I was a pitcher for the softball team. I had transferred as a junior and he was a red-shirt senior. A fellow teammate from the softball team introduced us. Needless to say, it wasn’t exactly love at first sight.
After a few brief introductions and casual conversations, I innocently enough, was sent by one of his roommates to the baseball house, where Jake lived, to pick up a few items. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the items were not his roommates, but Jake’s. I had stolen from him! Whoop!
A few dates later and one amazing goodnight kiss, we became a couple on September 17, 2005. He has stolen my heart and forever will be my partner in crime.
How did he propose?
We both share a passion for sports, especially baseball/softball. We were playing on a co-ed team together and during a game Jake re-injured his throwing shoulder making an awesome diving catch in the outfield (DUN NA NA DUN NA NA). However, this annoying injury put him on the DL for a few weeks and was unable to play during that time.
Fast forward to Christmas Eve 2012, my Dad had just received a new camera to use for pitching/hitting lessons and Jake asked him if he could record his throwing motion. That morning while I was cooking and baking in preparation for Christmas Day, Jake asked if I wouldn’t mind quickly running down to the softball fields behind our apartment complex to pitch while my Dad videotaped and looked his throwing motion. I should have known something was up when he asked me if I needed time to do my hair and make-up.
When we got to the field we met my parents. My Dad set up his camera and we started warming up. Jake asked me to throw a wild pitch outside…which I did. The ball got away! In true catcher fashion, he conveniently had another. However this one said, “Will you marry me?” He walked towards the mound, got down on one knee and said “I love you. Melissa Brown, will you marry me?” It was perfect!
How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake?
Colors:
They were simple; I wanted something classic and sophisticated with a pop of color. We chose gray and blush with accents of black and white.
As for flowers:
I knew I wanted to incorporate peonies, gardens roses and baby’s breath. Jake’s grandmother handmade all the bouquets, boutonnières and corsages while Cassandra at Flaire Weddings & Events absolutely captured my vision for the ceremony and reception.
Cake:
We chose to go with have a small 7″ inch marble cake from Publix for our cutting the cake ceremony and opted to go with cupcakes for our guests. We brought a little Plant City to Orange Park and went with a family friend, Mandy Kirk at Cottonwood Cupcakes. We selected a traditional Plant City favorite; Strawberry Shortcake, the Grooms favorite; Caribbean Princess, the Brides; Red Velvet and everyone’s favorite; Salted Carmel Chocolate.
How did you decide on your invitations, and who did you use?
Simple, I found a font I loved and wanted to use it for everything! I worked with Reilly at Invitations Consultants in Tampa to match the colors and font and gave her full artistic freedom. The result was amazing! I began using her for the rest of my reception and wedding day details.
