Love Story:

How did you two meet?

So… we met at college 🙂 We were in the same class and went to a very small school in Virginia so its hard to not to know your entire class (ours graduated in 2019 at like 130 students). Its a classic Pride & Prejudice love story actually which is ironic because that is our FAVORITE novel in the whole world. When we first met freshman year, we HATED each other and could not stand to be around each other.

Then before we returned for sophomore year, his brother was killed in a tragic accident. We really bonded over that since I’d just lost a childhood friend of mine the winter before. As we got to know each other, he was dating someone else down in Florida, so I knew it was a safe time to just be friends since there wasn’t expectations of anything else. We discovered we had a lot of interests in common: history, literature, music, art, theater, and lots more… and it blossomed from there.

In the spring semester of our sophomore year was when we first talked about it going further but we wanted to wait.. and then I turned chicken because I had no clue what I was feeling since I hadn’t ever dated anyone before and I had fallen HARD! So then I froze him out so I had time to think and then I spent 4 months in Europe for college, and missed him terribly. Not a day went by that I didn’t think of him and I was so sad about what happened. So when I came back at Christmas I reached back out to apologize and see if we could mend it, and then in March 2017 (on St. Patrick’s Day…which is funny since his name is Patrick!) we started dating and the rest is history lol!

How did he propose?

We got engaged May 9, 2019 at our college chapel just 2 days before our graduation from college. He gave me NO clue it was coming. I was all dressed up and so was he for the final graduation formal we had at our school, and part way through he asked me to go for a walk. So like a sheep I followed him out of the commons were our dance was.

He said he needed to “go to the bathroom” and wanted to go all the way to his room (there was a girls side and guys side of campus because its a Catholic school), and I followed him over in 4 inch heels and a lace pencil skirt dress (because I was an idiot lol!). I waited outside and it took him like 10 seconds to “go to the bathroom” which I was slightly suspicious of.

Then we walked over to the chapel to pray a bit together like we always did, and there was people inside the church so we sat outside until it was empty. I could hear his heart beating loudly and asked him a few times if he was okay and he said it was just from walking so fast across the campus. (can you tell I’m a little gullible and oblivious, haha!) So we sat next to each other in the front row of the Church and he started praying and thanking God for everything he’d given us and how he hoped it would never end… and then he proposed 🙂  🙂  🙂  🙂

I was crying happy tears of course and so was he, and then we had to go back to dance because if we weren’t there people would suspect something lol!  So we went back over and got to tell all our friends in person and then the DJ announced it on the loudspeaker and the whole room (which was all our class and their families) went crazy 🙂 It is such a good memory now even though in the moment we wanted to kill the person who said something since we just wanted to have a few moments to ourselves afterward lol!

Wedding planning:

How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake?

I knew I wanted Navy because its one of my favorite colors, and then when my mom and sisters and I were deciding on bridesmaid dresses, we chose lavender as well!

How did you decide on your invitations, and who did you use?

The first time around, we bought them at Hobby Lobby and printed them ourselves, but the second time we used VistaPrint because we needed something quick and beautiful. I designed them myself according to the theme of our wedding!

What was the most fun part of wedding planning?

Honestly, I loved the beginning part when I had a year to plan it! I could just relax and decide things and then choose the details and work on them slowly until at last it was all done! I LOVED choosing my music for Mass and making the bouquets and boutineers!

Which part did you not like as much?

So, we are kind of the anomaly couple because of COVID, but planning everything the third time around changing locations and needing all new vendors and things changing every single day was NOT fun. It was such a stressful process and I was honestly so glad when it was all over!

What are the biggest pieces of advice you wish you would have known before the wedding day.

Don’t sweat the details: the details are the least important part of the whole day. Get the big stuff in place and then just let it go! Lol!

This piece of advice I actually was given when we first decided to postpone: Don’t worry if it isn’t perfect or exactly how you planned it the first time, no one will know but you. So, just let go of that, try to enjoy the planning part, don’t stress yourself out over it, and let it be how God wants it to be because that will be the best you could ask for! Man is ALL that true!
