EIGHT TIPS ON HOW TO PLAN FOR THIS YEAR’S MINI SESSION PHOTO SESSION

Minis are super quick (and painless), and you’ll get all the images you need for the perfect Christmas card or collage on the wall. It’s a perfect opportunity to update the kids and family photos. I’m not big on themes or setups because I like this investment and time spent to produce photos that can hang on the wall year round. Having said that, if you love Christmas decor or themes, feel free to bring anything, and we will certainly incorporate it if there’s time.

HERE’S A FEW TIPS TO MAKE SURE IT’S STREAMLINED AND STRESS-FREE.

#1 – I bring an assistant when possible. If you’re booking on a back to back mini day, you can bet my assistant will be there. She’s great at getting the laughs that look so natural in photos. So breathe and know we’ve got it. You can just show up and smile with little or no threatening your children for good smiles.

#2 – Outfit selections. I love colors that FLOW together but aren’t matchy. Take a look at instagram or Pinterest to see some color schemes you’re drawn to. Right now for this year I’m really digging the burnt oranges and reds. It’s very “fall” feel.

#3 – Bring a neutral blanket that ties in with your outfit color scheme.

#4 – Make sure everyone is fed and blood sugar is stable. Packaged fruit snacks or other bribery treats are a great idea for us to have ready for your kids when the shoot is over.

#5 – Arrive a few minutes early. Get there and settle outfits before your turn to get in for shooting. That way none of your 30 min time slot is spent tucking in shirts and changing clothes.

#6 – Feel free to bring a family member. We have some clients that the littles have extreme stranger danger so they bring grandma or nanny. That’s totally fine! A familiar face is great for kids. Just let grandma know I’ll likely throw her in for a few photos.

#7 – Book Early! I know I should have made this at the #1 spot. But editing takes some time once I’m shooting 10 families every other day. I know you want these as Christmas cards so in order to have ordering/delivery time, book early and get in on a date to leave plenty of time for editing and delivery of images.

#8 – Last but not least – Please just relax and smile. Don’t stress over your kids not cooperating and let us work our magic. Obviously if your kiddo is being disrespectful or running into traffic, intervene please. But on the regular I see kids being kids and moms stressing over their high energy in fears the family photos are going to be shot. Trust me, we make magic out of chaos. Just smile and laugh through it. My assistant is great with kids, and my mission is catching moments that are authentic. So between us all, your photos are going to be epic. So just breathe and enjoy the process.
